Living Life in a Catsuit

Coat/ Glendale Goodwill, Shoes/ Urban Outfitters, Catsuit/ Sunthrift, Sunglasses/ Giant Vintage Sunglasses

$up,
For a long time I have really wanted to get a catsuit. I remember my best friend Sahara let me borrow a black catsuit that she had for halloween. I dressed up as a ghost, but the costume was inconvenient to wear at parties, so I would take it off and just be wearing this really cute catsuit. I have wanted one every since then I suppose. They are kind of hard to find when your a cheep-skate like me. I found this one at Sun Thrift, and I guess it was just pure luck. I find you cant really go into thrift stores with a clear image of something you want, because odds are you are not going to find it, and then you'll be kinda bummed out. The catsuit doesn't really fit properly yet, but I plan on fixing it as soon as my mom sends me my peddle for my sewing machine. Yeah you read that correctly, she sent me my machine without my peddle.. Silly mommy.

Moody Blues

Sunglasses/ Giant Vintage Sunglasses, Skirt/ Sun Thrift, Shoes/ Ego and Greed, Shirt/ Sun Thrift.

$up lovelies,
Over the weekend I did a shoot with a girl named Rachel. She is living in my halls and she is from New York. She is only here for the semester, but she is super nice and super talented. We went to this laundry mat just down the road from us. It was kind of a dark dingy day which showed up in a sort of magical way in the photos. I really like the way they came out, they look very raw.

These glasses are another pair from Giant Vintage Sunglasses. I absolutely love the way they look. They are modeled after the Miumiu Glasses, but they are super affordable and comfortable. I am so happy to add them to my glasses collection. The shirt and top I got at Sun Thrift but at different times. That is one thing I really miss about being back in LA is my many trips to Sun Thrift. The shoes I got at Wasteland in my last trip up to oakland. I miss my Oakland friends a great deal, I am really happy that I was able to take that trip up there. This is the last time I am going to be able to wear my hair like this, because this weekend I am getting it cut. I don't know exactly how short because it isn't up to me (I got picked to be in a hair show), but it's going to be fun and exciting.

Lately I have been obsessed with mood rings, so I decided to only wear mood rings. I really like the look of them because they are always changing colors, but they are never the same color. I think it's my body's way of saying, "hey, your really confused!" Not to say I am depressed of anything, but just being away from home and I guess not fully on my own two feet yet, I have had so many mixed emotions. It's weird to feel so many different, conflicting things all at one time. I know things will get better of course, but for the time being, it's fun to have something like this.

Artist Spotlight: Margaret Kilgallen

I have to admit that I have been looking forward to writing about Margaret Kilagallen since the last time I wrote an artist spotlight. This is one of my favorite artists for more than just the fact that I like her art. I think that the kind of person that she was and the things that she stood for and what she believed in, really made me love her.

For those of you that have never herd of her, I suggest you check her out online or you can watch the movie "Beautiful Losers" (One of my favorite movies) to learn about her and other brilliant artists. Margaret was a bay area street artist in the 90s and she had a heart breaking death in 2001. Her art was mainly of these powerful women in nature, she did a lot of work for her community such as making signs and working with calligraphy which was really prevalent in her body of art work as a whole. One of my most favorite things that she said was:

"In my own work I do everything by hand, I don't project. I do spend a lot of time trying to perfect my line work and my hand, but my hand will always be imperfect, because it's human. If I am doing really big letters and I spend a lot of time going over the line, and over the line trying to make it straight, I'll will never be able to make it straight. From a distance it might look straight, but when you get close up you can always see the line waver and I think thats where the beauty is."

There is so much truth to that statement. As artist we are always trying to make something look perfect but no matter how hard we try we will never be able to get it to that state because humans are imperfect. Art that is done by computers can be perfect but it is 100 times more beautiful to see something done by hand because you can see how much work went into each little line. She also spoke a lot about women's rights and equality which also made a big impression on her work.

,br> Margaret Kilgallen died in 2001 from cancer. She chose to not get treatment because she was pregnant and she would have had to give up her baby which she was not willing to do. She was married to another really talented artist named Barry Mcgee (he is really talented and awesome) and they did a lot of collaborations with each other. She died very young and it is such a shame because she was really talented and a wonderful human being who had the most interesting things to say. She is a huge inspiration to me not only as an artist but as a human being. She continues to inspire young women artists everywhere.

Tacky in the Slightest

Glasses/ Giant Vintage Sunglasses, Dress/ WEWA, Shoes/ Jeffrey Campbell.

$up
The weeks in Uni are slowly progressing. We are still in the induction process and will probably be finished in another week. I had forgotten how much I loved being in an artistic environment. It's slightly different this time around, but it's still great. I think last time friends came easier because I wasn't looking so hard for them, I was looking for creativity and that came, but with huge cloud of self judgement. This time I got really bummed out in the first couple of weeks that I didn't have any friends or really anyone that I wanted to be friends with and then I realized that I was searching to hard for the right people and not letting it all come naturally. In this past week at Uni, I gave up my search for friendship and just started doing my own thing. I have been having the best/ most creative ideas for shoes, clothing, art and just everything. I have a lot of things right now in the works. The first full day I was here I ran into a woman on the bus and we were talking for a while. I was on my way to the doctors because I felt ill, and she could tell my energy was really anxious and upset. She told me to let life take control and I have been doing my best to let life lead me. I haven't been this happy in a while and it feels really great. Letting life lead the way has been working out so well and so many opportunities have presented themselves to me and I am so excited to see what comes next. It was difficult at first but I think moving here has been the best decision that I have ever made.

How darling is this dress? I found it at the Camden Market this past sunday. I went with Justin and this American girl that moved in on my hall. She actually lives in California about an hour from where I used to live in Oakland. It was pretty fun, we got crepes and some cute clothes for super cheap. This dress is made by a company called WEWA, and they are located in the Electric Ballroom in Camden Town every Sunday. The maker is a 70 year old woman and she makes really wonderful pieces that have all these really cool patches on them and then they are colored over with some kind of sparkly fabric paint. I loved the print on the dress and the angel is so tacky in the best way possible. I am sporting some Giant Vintage Glasses that are really pretty and pink. The shoes are Jeffrey Campbell and they are a hunk of junk. I have maybe worn these shoes six times and they are all broken and falling apart. I've had them for a couple of years though, but they haven't been worn very many times. I have been doing this sort of Edie Sedgwick/ Twiggy eye make up lately, and I actually really love the way it looks, I get some pretty weird stares from people when I am walking on the street though, but hey, I can deal with it.

Doh

Skirt/ Ebay, Top/ Ebay, Shoes/ Sun Thrift, Hat/ Nobody Los Angeles, Glasses/ Giant Vintage Sunglasses.

$up,
This Bart Simpson get up is a Jeremy Scott knock off that I got on ebay for a really good price of 40 dollars. I love Jeremy Scott, but I don't have the money to drop on his clothing. I found this almost a year ago and I thought it was perfect, I had to have it. I love patterns like this, its not something you see to often. I know being a fashion follower or a blog fiend you notice a lot of people wearing clothing that is really patterend and people clashing patterns really well (or at least thats the kind of stuff I see a lot.). I tend to think a lot more people actually dress like that, then there actually are. I almost never see people walking around wearing all patterns. I mainly see people wearing black or grey or things from higher end retail brands. It's a little boring sometimes and it got me thinking:

Fashion is a form of self expression and I think it is so much more fun to dress crazy and colorful and different, life is to short to wear boring clothing. I think it's better to stand out then to blend in, so be bold and daring!

Sometimes I go back and forth on this though. A lot of the time I don't care what other people think and I dress the way I feel. Sometimes even dressing a certain way will improve my mood. Every once and a while though I feel like I just want to dress "normal" to be "pretty" to the rest of the world. It's a strange feeling really. I feel like that is a common feeling for a lot of people and I think it's because everyone has this little part of them that almost needs approval of others. I can admit that sometimes I feel like I want other people's approval but most of the time it doesn't matter to me as long as I can make myself happy. In the end the only person you have is you, and you need to be able to make yourself feel good. Love yourself for who you are, and others will love you.

I guess those are my cliche words of the day..
